Part time domestic and poultry farmer

blog

Edna Rose a part-time domestic worker and poultry farmer. When she returned to ECLOF in year 2015, Edna’s living condition was very inadequate. She desperately needed help and was emotionally broken. Despite, this she had a strong will to improve her personal circumstances and that of her family. She was unemployed and was seeking to revitalize her ailing broiler business. She was learning $20,000 from rearing and selling 100 chickens over each 2-months period.

The ECLOF loan was for the purchase of an additional 100 chickens aimed at doubling her income. Since the renewal of her borrowing relationship with ECLOF she is currently on her second loan. The income from her chicken business is dedicated towards completion of a one bedroom house she is constructing on leased property. When we visited Ms. Rose in April the many tears of the previous year had been replace with beaming smiles. The construction of her new home is substantially complete and she hoped to move in within a few months. Below she holds one of her precious chickens at 5 weeks it already was weighing well over 4lbs and would be ready for the market in a weeks’ time.
